The world we live in wants us to focus on ourselves. We have all heard people talk about how they made it by themselves. This concerns me when this view slides into the church, so when people speak they use terms like “I” and “me”. These terms are used to inform all who can hear them, that this would not have worked without their involvement. If you ever hear a child of God speak in these terms, they have forgotten what The Lord has done for them. Paul states in 1 Corinthians 1:26 that many of us were not wise, powerful, or well off when we came to Jesus Christ. Some of us may have been considered societal outcast. However, this did not matter to Jesus because He saw the potential in us. In essence Jesus took us from a nobody to a somebody. We can’t allow ourselves to fall into the trap the enemy has set for us to take our attention off Jesus Christ. When we were bound by sin and rejected by family and friends, the only one that was there for us was Jesus Christ. He blessed us with wisdom, empowered us to move forward, through breaking the chains of sin in our lives. Therefore, no matter what we have accomplished in life,The Lord gave us our start and has never left our side. That’s why we rejoice and say “look at what The Lord has done”!
Have you been guilty of self hype? What was shared was not done to beat you up but to cause you to transition from self to Jesus Christ. The only way you are going to be able to help others is to share with them the One who help you. When people want to praise you, that’s when you let them know to give God the praise. You will not only tell them but you will praise Him as well, because you know what The Lord has done!
