God wants us to appreciate the small things in life, because what lies in them are the blessings. I wonder how many people are missing their blessings, because they are overlooking the small things? For example, everyday you wake up and know where you are, is a blessing. Everyday you are able to serve the Lord, is a blessing. When you are able to get out the bed and do for yourself, a blessing. Being employed is a blessing. Having retired and collecting social security and a pension, is a blessing. We must rejoice in being able to do these things. However, the problems of life have caused some to overlook these blessings. I’m not disregarding anyone’s problems, but maybe what we need to do is to start paying more attention to our blessings. When we do, our problems begin to shrink before our eyes. In Zachariah 4 the angel wakes up the prophet. He sees the lamp stand of gold, bowl on top, and seven lamps. He does not understand what he sees and asks the angel “what are these, LORD?” The angel says “this is the Word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord.” The Lord is going to take what they have and use it to build the temple. We see in verse 10 it states “the day of small things shall rejoice.” The lesson to be learned here is not how much you have, but how much faith do you have in the Lord. The Lord will do great things with the small things that we bring.
I want you to know, the Lord will bless a small gift, and for you to rejoice in being able to give it. You have to remember the Lord said “not by might, or power, but by my spirit”. The Lord created everything in this world through His spirit. Therefore, He can take your small thing and do great things with it. Thank you Lord!
