In Psalm 42:11, the writer is questioning his mindset. Why, because he is feeling the negative impact it is having on him. The writer is asking himself, “why are you cast down, O my soul?” His current attitude is causing him to give up. However, there is a fight going on inside of him because he is questioning his actions. The writer is now fighting against the decision he has made to give up. Then he raises another question, “why are you disquieted within me?” In essence he is asking himself, why are you uneasy and worrying. The realization of his current actions to life circumstances is out of character for him. The writer is now recalling how he has made it this far in life. It was nobody but the Lord who has blessed him and brought him through in the past. So, what has caused him in this situation not to place his trust in the Lord? There are a number of things it could be. However, the primary issue may be, he did not take the situation to the Lord. He attempted to work it out and it began to work him over. Causing him to become frustrated, wanting to give up and worry about what was going to happen next. This is how the enemy operates, he wants you to think you don’t need the Lord’s help on this one. So, you take the lead and before you know it, things have become chaotic. Now, the enemy wants you to waddle in the mess you made. After seeing the mess he wants you to give up and spend the rest of your time worrying about it. This is exactly what the writer was doing, but the Lord stirred up something in him that would not allow this to happen.
The questions were raised, and now the solution is given, “hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my help and my God.” When the writer was at the point where he felt all was lost, God stepped in and helped him to realize you are not alone. When you live your life believing and trusting in the Lord, He will show up. This is to let you know the Lord has not changed His mind about you. Yes, you made a mess of the situation, but the Lord will not allow you to waddle in it. He will step in, and clean up the mess. Why, because He loves you, and He will not allow a mistake you made to break you down. This is why the writer said, “I shall again praise Him.” When you think about what the Lord has done, the praise in you begins to come out of you. Because, you know He is worthy of praise.
What has caused you to give up and worry about life situations? You may have made some mistakes, but it’s time for you to fight through them. You have to recall what the Lord has done before, and know He will do it again. So, put your hope in God and praise Him again. Continue to walk in your blessings!
