At Church we always hear people talk about the power of God. We also need to know there is no limit to God’s power. What restricts the ability of the Church to excel is thinking God only works in a specific way. In Matthew 8:5-13 a centurion appealed to Jesus to heal his servant. The centurion did not want Jesus to come to his home because he felt unworthy. He wanted Jesus to speak the word and his servant would be healed. He believed in the power and authority Jesus had, but we don’t know how he came to this conclusion. Did he just hear about Jesus or did he see Him heal somebody? He knew Jesus had authority, because he was a commander that had authority over one hundred soldiers. When he spoke the word, his soldiers followed his instructions. He knew Jesus’s authority was greater than his own. He believed all He had to do was speak the word and it was done.
Jesus was truly excited about this, because it allowed those that heard the centurion understand you can’t limit the power of God. Prior to this, no one displayed this type of faith. That is why Jesus brought attention to this man; to have people remove their limitation on the power of the Lord. This conversation between Jesus and the centurion concluded with the servant being healed because of this man’s faith.
What limits have we placed on the power of God? It’s time to remove them by trusting God and stepping out on faith. One of our biggest struggles is stepping out on faith and not knowing what is going to happen next. You have to understand: “without faith, it is impossible to please God.” God never said it would be easy, but to experience His limitless power you have to start with faith! Think about this, the one who excited Jesus was a gentile. They weren’t supposed to know how to utilize faith. This centurion would not limit the power of God, but allow it to do the impossible for his servant. It’s time for you to stop restricting what you think God can do, and start believing the impossible through you faith.
