I truly believe The Lord has called us to do extraordinary things in this world. Not so that we can walk around like we are all that, but to let others know about the power of the God we serve. In Matthew 14:22-33 we have the account when Jesus walked on water. Early in the morning, the disciple’s boat was being tossed by the wind and the waves. From a distance, they saw a figure walking on water coming toward them, and they thought it was a ghost. Jesus identified himself to put them at ease, but Peter needed more. He called out to Jesus and said “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water”. Jesus said to Peter “come”. Now it was left up to Peter to move from ordinary to the extraordinary.
I believe Peter wanted to leave the boat, because he needed to be where Jesus was. Peter understood to be safe you have to be with Jesus. Therefore, he had to get out the boat. Image how the other disciples looked at Peter and thought he must be crazy to leave the safety of the boat. They were satisfied with the ordinary and would not consider doing anything further.
Peter was successful in walking on water while he remained focus on Jesus. Once he allowed his surrounding to draw his attention from Jesus, he began to sink. Peter then called out to Jesus “Lord, save me!” Immediately The Lord reached out and grabbed him and they both walked back to the boat.
The Lord wants to do the extraordinary with us, but we have to be willing to come out the boat. If we focus on the surroundings, we will not come out. We have to move in our faith in order to get out the boat. When we do, The Lord will move us from the ordinary to the extraordinary, and it will encourage others to the same. Get out the boat!
