There is a reality we all face and that’s life situations. When we are faced with them some people will spend an amount of time worrying about what is going to happen. Truth be told, this was us at one point of our lives, we needed food, clothing, and a place to stay. It moved us to worry because we did not know how these basic necessities were going to be provided for us. Once these things were taken care of, we were able to move forward in our lives. Jesus shared this with His disciples, because He knew they would experience some rough times. The disciples were going to be moving forward in faith as they provided ministry. So, there would be times they were not sure how their basic necessities were going to be provided. Jesus wanted them to know if they place their trust in Him and move forward by faith. The Lord will provide for them. Now that we have given our lives to Jesus Christ do we still worry?
In Matthew 6:25-34, the overall theme in these verses is not to worry, but strive first for the Kingdom of God. Initially Jesus talks about the basic necessities, and how we are not to worry about them. Then Jesus tells them to look at the birds, and how they neither sow nor reap. However, your Heavenly Father provided for them. Since they are provided for, do you not know how much more value you have? Jesus lets them know you can’t add anything to your life by worry. I want you to remember it takes energy to worry. If we take that same energy and use it to trust the Lord, it would be better spent. That’s why Jesus tells us in verse 33, “strive first for the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” We have to make the decision to put God first in our lives. This shouldn’t be hard, because God is blessing us right now. He is the reason we are still breathing, if it was not for His grace and mercy where we would be. When we view it from this perspective it helps us to understand God has made us a priority. Now it’s time for us to get our priorities in order, and place God first. Once this happens we are in a right relationship with God, and He will make sure we have everything we need each and every day. Therefore, I’m encouraging you to place all your energy in serving God. Why, because there are benefits in doing so.
How have you been using your energy? If it’s on worry, there is nothing for you to gain or grow from. If it’s seeking God, there is a lot you will gain in doing this. I’m challenging you to seek God first, foremost, and always, and see how things will be added to your life. Continue to walk in your blessings!
