In 1 Samuel 17:31-40, David is brought to Saul because he volunteered to fight against the philistine. I can imagine the look on King Saul’s face when David came into his presence. Saul was expecting one of his valiant warriors, not someone who was not even a soldier. He immediately told David that he did not stand a chance against the philistine. David immediately shared his experience in battle against predators and how the Lord gave him the ability to defeat them. David shared with Saul how lions and bears would come to attack the sheep. Each time they came the Lord gave him the strength to defeat the predator and save the sheep. When the predator attempted to attack him after he saved the sheep, he would kill it.
In essence, David was making Saul aware the Lord was preparing him for this moment and this philistine was a predator that was attacking God’s sheep. The reason David immediately responded to Saul was to remove the negativity that was being shared to impact him. David didn’t know it until this moment, how watching over his father’s sheep was his training ground for this moment. This is why he was not overwhelmed with the size of the philistine, because all the predators he came against were bigger than him. However, in every situation the Lord gave him the strength to defeat them. This is why, he was not afraid of Goliath when he saw him.
Saints, the various things you have been through in life occurred, to let you know how the power of God is able to bring you through. Why, because you made the decision not to face anything by yourself, but allow the Lord to lead you to victory. Therefore, when things happen you don’t let the moment over take you, but you take it to the Lord.
When Saul agreed to allow David to face the philistine, he gave him his armor to use in battle. David attempted to wear it, but realized it was a hindrance and not a help. This is when David knew, now was not the time to change what had been working for him. David took his staff, sling, gathered five smooth stones from the Wadi and placed them in his pouch. Then he went to face the giant. It’s Interesting how Saul was not willing to fight against the philistine, but wanted David to wear his armor in this battle. Saints, the Lord has equipped you with what you need to be victorious, now is not the time to take something from someone who is not willing to go to battle. What you have is sufficient, so continue to walk by faith and not by sight, knowing the Lord has equipped you. Continue to walk in your blessings
