Today, we are celebrating Broad Rock Baptist Church’s 128th anniversary. For a church to continue to exist, a cornerstone has to be in place to sustain it. The cornerstone that sustains the Church is Jesus Christ. There is no Church that can exist and have longevity without building upon Jesus Christ. This is not a statement of arrogance, but one of truth. Why, because every Church will go through storms, but only the ones built upon Jesus Christ will remain standing. The only constant in the Church is Jesus Christ, everything else will change. The Church will have multiple pastors, leaders, and saints, because none of us will be on this earth forever. Therefore, it is important for the Church to keep Jesus Christ as the focal point, because He is the only One that can sustain us. When coming into the Church we make it a point to give Him all the glory, honor, and praise. Jesus Christ has always been faithful to us, even though we have not always been faithful to Him. Saints, we have all been delivered out of darkness into His marvelous Light. This is to remind us, the Lord is good.
In 1 Peter 2:1-7, Peter is letting us know the steps that must take place for the Church to have longevity. He initially makes us aware of the things we must rid ourselves of, malice, guile, insincerity, envy, and slander. All of these things Peter has listed are barriers that stop us from connecting with the Lord. We can only connect with the Lord, when we are able to admit these barriers exist within us. Once we accept the truth, then we have to ask the Lord for His assistance. You gain His help once you take in the pure spiritual milk He provides. This is how you begin to grow in truth, and realize you need Him to save your life. You only come to this conclusion, because you have tasted what the Lord has offered. Now you know the Lord is good!
You have come to the One, who gives life to all that receive Him. Jesus Christ is the living stone that was rejected by people, yet was chosen by God to be the cornerstone for the Church. Through your relationship with the Lord, you are no longer dead in your sins. Jesus Christ has made you alive. Now you are a living stone for Jesus, that will aid in the growth of the spiritual house. By believing in Jesus Christ no one can put you to shame. In essence your sins have been forgiven, and your relationship with Jesus Christ is precious. This is why Broad Rock Baptist Church is still here, because we have tasted and know the Lord is good! Continue to walk in your blessings.
