In Matthew 18:1-5 we have the disciples asking Jesus who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven? The question in itself is the opposite of what Jesus had been teaching them. However, the reality is many people are looking to be placed in privileged positions. After hearing their question, Jesus takes a child and puts him among them. Then He says (verse 3) “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven?” Jesus is letting then know before you can enter the Kingdom of Heaven, you have to change. The change consist of them becoming like children. For any that have been to a children’s play, the adults have to encourage them to step forward. Why, because the children prefer being in the background. This is what Jesus is saying in verse 4, we have to humble ourselves. Also, children are trusting in their parents to take care of them.
In essence Jesus is asking His disciples, are you ready to change? If they are not then they will not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. This same question is also being presented to us, and it does not matter how old or young you are. No one is able to enter until they are ready to change. The changes we have to make is to humble ourselves and be willing to trust The Lord with our lives. Be blessed!
