In Philippians 4:4-7, there are five words that stand out. In verse 4 the word is rejoice. Paul was letting the Philippians know, no matter what is going on rejoice in the Lord. In verse 5 the word is near. Since we have been redeemed, we have to know the Lord is near. In verse 6 the word is prayer. We are not to worry about anything, but we are to apply prayer to everything. In verse 7 we have two words, the first one is peace. We serve a God who is in control, therefore we can be at peace in all situations. The second word is guard. Our hearts and minds will be guarded in Jesus Christ.
This past Wednesday a new president was elected, and many people were devastated by the winner. We have people throughout our country protesting, because they don’t want to accept the idea of this person winning the election. Others have considered moving to Canada. In the past we have voted for presidential candidates that did not win, but we have not had people respond as they are now. What is upsetting so many people; the idea that the American people would allow negativity, hatred, and division to win.
As Christians, I want us to apply the words from Philippians 4:4-7. Even though we are disappointed by what has happened, we still have to rejoice in the Lord. He is the one that has been there for us through thick and thin. The Lord is always near and will not leave us nor forsake us. Therefore, we will not worry about what has happened, but apply prayer to the situation. Because, we know all things will work together for our good. We don’t understand why God let this happen, but remember “His ways are higher that our ways, and His thoughts are higher than ours”. So, we can be at peace, because He is in control. We are thankful for Jesus Christ, because He will guard our hearts and minds. Why, because God is in control!
