Have you ever been frustrated at your job when someone takes credit for the work you did. In Ephesians 2:8-10, Paul is writing to the Church in Ephesus to remind them all what God has done for them. In verse 8, he let them know it was through God’s grace that they were saved through faith. They had nothing to do with it, this was a gift from God. I don’t know about you, but I’m glad I’m saved. I also appreciate Jesus having faith in human beings, believing what He had done was not in vain. In verse 9, Paul continues by letting them know their salvation was not the result of works, so no one could boast about. Paul did not want them to get it twisted and think they were able to work for their salvation. If they could, some would begin to boast about what they accomplished. In verse 10 Paul states, we are created in “Christ Jesus for good works”. This was God’s plan for us “prepared beforehand to be our way of life”. Paul was telling them to keep focused on God. Why, so that they don’t fall into the trap of believing they are self-sufficient.
I want you to think about the first sentence of this blog, and remember how you felt when someone took credit for what you did. How do you think God feels when He works through you to do good works, and you take the credit for it? You should always take some time and reflect on where God has brought you from through Christ Jesus. Then you will not forget how far you have come, and it was made possible through the grace of God. Therefore, the next time someone wants to give you credit, tell them to “thank God”. Because, I didn’t do it!
