In Ephesians 1:13 Paul takes the saints in Ephesus back to when they first met Jesus Christ. In verse 13, Paul identifies the following; they heard, the Word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation, believed, and were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. They were taken through the progression of how they became Christians. As God’s children it all began when they heard the Word of truth. Nothing else would have been possible, if they had not heard. There are some that beat themselves up, because they took a long time to get to this point. You have to stop doing this, because you heard when you were ready to receive. The Word of truth, identifies who God is, why Jesus came, and the condition of humankind. We needed salvation, because we were on a path of self destruction. That’s when we made the decision to believe, and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
Through this decision we have been marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. During the time of Paul, when someone sent you a package, it was marked with a seal. It had an emblem to identify the sender. Paul was letting them know they have received something greater than any package, and the sender is the Lord. This is a promised gift that is available to all that believe. We have been marked with the seal that gives us a taste of heaven, the Holy Spirit. Therefore, every child of God has been marked with the seal, meaning we all should be filled with the Holy Spirit.
There is nothing wrong with you reflecting on when you accepted Jesus Christ. I encourage you to do so, because it will keep you grounded. Also, you will continue moving forward, knowing that you are loved. Why, because you have been marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit.
