What’s interesting about life is that there will always be choices you have to make. Whether you want to believe it or not, you are being guided by sin or the Holy Spirit. This is what Paul wants to make clear about life. If you are being guided by sin, then the choices you are making will lead to destruction. The more you fight against negative choices, you are still unable to overcome them. You came to the point in your life where you could see the destruction your choices were making. So, you made up your mind not to make them, but that didn’t work. Why, because during this time in your life, sin was in control.
In Romans 7:14-25, Paul shared with the Romans about his own battle with sin, and how he was unable to defeat it by himself. He makes the following statement, “I can do what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. (verses 18-19)” From this statement, Paul is letting them know, you are fighting a battle you cannot win on your own. You can be thinking of the good you want to do, but when you are faced with making a choice, evil wins. Paul is not making excuses for himself or the Romans. He is letting them know sin has control over their lives. Now, the reality is, how can I change? First, you have to know, you are incapable of being able to overcome sin on your own. Second, you have to know Jesus Christ is able to deliver you from a life of sin. When you make your mind up to accept Him into your life, He will make you brand new. This is truly what Paul wanted to relay to the Romans. It was time for them not to give up, but give it all to Jesus Christ. Then He will make everything brand new in their lives.
I hope you understand why you have not been able to overcome your bad decisions. Sin has been dominating your life, and wants you to think it can’t get better. Now that you know better, it’s time for you to do better: by placing everything into the hands of Jesus Christ. He will make your life brand new! Continue to walk in your blessings.
