God used Elijah to defeat and destroy the prophets of Baal to show the people all things are possible with God (1 Kings 18). Once Jezebel heard what had taken place, she sent a message to Elijah stating he will be dead within a day. Once he received the message, his faith was replaced with fear. It’s easy for us to ridicule him for running away after he saw God do a miraculous work. We have to realize Elijah thought he was the only one left to do the will of God. He did not have a support group to encourage and remind him of the power of God. In 1 Kings 19:9 God asked Elijah, “What are you doing here?” In essence God was asking him why did you run away? During this encounter, God encouraged Elijah and made him aware that he was not alone.
The one thing you have to remember is that you are not alone. Are you the only one at your house going to Church, reading the Bible, and praying for your family? You may answer no, but there is someone reading this who will answer “yes”. If your answer is yes, you don’t have to start feeling discouraged because you’re feeling alone. When you allow discouragement to take hold of you, fear will begin to replace your faith. I’m speaking to you right now and saying don’t you dare give up or give in, because God has brought you through a lot in your life. Now is not the time to give up but continue to look up and see how God will encourage and bless you. Why, because you are not alone!
