What is the purpose for you to come to Church? What do you expect to happen while you are there? Do you feel obligated to come, and if so why? I have raised three questions, and they are all associated with your Church experience. The purpose for coming to Church is to be in the presence of the Lord. By being in His presence you should have expectations of what the Lord is going to do in your life. Also, you expect to feel the peace of God, to assist you through all the ups and down you faced the past week. You realize how the Lord continues to inspire your life by coming to Church. Therefore, you look forward to coming, because the Lord will not allow you to leave without touching your heart. This touch causes you to leave Church feeling better. This is why some people are excited about attending, because the Lord always meets them where they are.
In Psalm 84:10-12, the writer is sharing his experience in being in the courts of the Lord. In verse 10, he talks about how one day in the Lord’s courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. The writer is letting us know nothing compares to being in the presence of the Lord. There is something that takes place in the presence of the Lord that cannot be fully explained. But, what can be shared is there is no place that can compare to it. He would prefer to be a doorkeeper in God’s house, than to live in the tents of wickedness. In essence the writer wants it to be known, being a doorkeeper for the Lord is greater than being anything in this wicked world. The impact the Lord has made on the life of this writer is awesome. In verse 11, the writer elaborates further by saying, “for the Lord God is a sun and shield; He bestows favor and honor.” The Lord exposes everything with His light, and protects him from all hurt and harm. The Lord has shown the writer favor and honor, because the writer delights in being in the house of God. Since the writer has taken this position no good thing is held back, because those who walk upright should expect good things. Then the writer concludes in verse 12, “O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in You.” There is something that happens on the inside of you, when you place your trust in the Lord.
Do you understand what you gain through your Church experience? The Church is to be a place of healing, deliverance, love, peace, and joy. However, you are the one that has to come with expectations of what the Lord can do. It doesn’t matter what others think, because you know the God you serve has all power in His hand. Therefore, I will not allow negativity to get in my way of receiving a touch from the Lord. Continue to walk in your blessings!
