As a Christian, you should always be ready to praise the Lord. Your praise should not be predicated on how the Lord has blessed you. You cannot begin to realize all the Lord has done, and is still doing in your life. Don’t get stuck on praising the Lord for the things in your life. If you have been taking this approach to praise the Lord, your focus is on the resources. In essence, this is what fuels your praise. If the resources begin to slow down, how will you respond? Will your praise begin to slow down as well. The Lord is the foundation of your praise, because He is the Source of all your blessings. Things will come and go in your life, but the Lord is with you always.
In Psalm 139:13-14, the writer takes the time to share with his readers the Source of our existence. In verse 13 it states, “for it was You who formed my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” The terminology used may not be medical terms, but the words explain who did the work, and where it was done. The writer is fascinated with the reproduction of humanity, and how the Lord orchestrates the entire process. This is to let you know, you are not a mistake. It does not matter whether your birth was planned or not, because it was God’s plan for you to be here. Therefore, He developed you in your mother’s womb, and kept you safe. After your birth the Lord continued to watch over and bless you to grow. Then the writer continues with these words in verse 14, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.” He starts this verse with acknowledging the need to praise the Lord, because He is the Source of our existence. The writer uses two words to describe how we were made, fearfully and wonderfully. The word fearfully when translated from Hebrew means great reverence, heart-felt interest, and with respect. When the Lord created us it was heart-felt, because we are created in His image. The word wonderfully when translated from Hebrew means unique and set apart. We are unique to all of God’s creations, because we were set apart to have dominion over the earth. We are to take care of everything on this earth. When I think about all the Lord has done, it is wonderful and I can’t stop praising His name.
You have to know the Lord as the source of everything in your life. Therefore, my praise is generated from the Lord, who is the reason why I exist. So, no matter what is going on in my life, the Lord will get all the glory, honor, and praise. Why, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made by God, and I am not a mistake. I can’t begin to understand all He has done for me. Continue to walk in your blessings!
