When we live our lives according to the will of the Lord, we will see Him do miraculous things. After seeing what the Lord has done for us, He is expecting a response from His people. Why, because He is worthy of the praise. Some may think it’s not necessary to worship and praise the Lord, but I beg to differ. Think about this, when someone holds a door open for you, your response is thank you. You respond in this way because you understand they didn’t have to do it. How is that any different from what the Lord does for us? He didn’t have to do it, but He did. Therefore we respond by worshipping and praising Him. This is exactly what took place with the Israelites when they were by the Red Sea.
In Exodus 14:13-14, Moses told the people in verse 13, do not be afraid, but stand firm and see your deliverance the Lord will accomplish today. In verse 14, they are told, “the Lord will fight for you, and you have only to keep still.” They were told this when they saw the Egyptian army barreling down toward them, and they had no way to escape. This was part of God’s divine plan, so the Israelites could see His power. The Lord parted the Red Sea, and they walked across on dry land with walls of water on their left and right. Being still does not mean you are not moving, but you are allowing the Lord to guide you every step of the way. As they were walking through the Red Sea, I can only imagine what was going through their minds. These people who were slaves in Egypt only a few days prior are now experiencing the awesome power of the Lord before their eyes. As they are going through this, fear has been removed and doubt is no longer in existence. When they made it to the other side, the Egyptians attempted to follow them and were drowned in the Red Sea. The people of God have been blessed beyond their own imagination. They were delivered from the Egyptians without having to lift a hand to fight.
In Exodus 15, Moses and the Israelites sang a song of praise to the Lord. We are going to focus on verses one and two. In verse one, we are told they sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously. In essence, they are singing because of the impressive work the Lord has done. They were able to see this because they made the decision to do as they were instructed. In verse two, they sing about how the Lord is their strength and has become their salvation. They realized it was nobody but the Lord who has changed their position. They were once slaves bound in the land of Egypt but now they are free and moving in the direction the Lord is leading them. This is why they have to worship and praise the Lord because He alone has changed the direction of their lives.
What has the Lord instructed you to do during a troubling time in your life? If you followed His instructions, you were able to see the Lord do impressive work. Now, the only thing left to do is praise His Holy Name! Why, because He has changed the direction of your life. Continue to walk in your blessings.
