In 2 Timothy 3:10-15, Paul is writing to Timothy, to help him to be successful in ministry. Paul knew Timothy was being distracted by the challenges he was facing, and was losing sight of his purpose in ministry. Why, because people were attacking his ministry, and he was feeling sorry for himself. Paul reminded Timothy of the persecution he had to endure, but he would not allow it to be a distraction. The purpose for sharing this was to let him know, when you are serving the Lord you will deal with persecution. But, the Lord will rescue you. How are you feeling about the ministry you are providing? Do you feel like you are being attacked for doing the work of the Lord? I want you to understand you are not alone and no matter what is going on, remain faithful in what the Lord is using you to do.
In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Paul lets Timothy know the purpose of Scripture and how God’s Word will impact his life. In verse 16, Paul initially states, “all Scripture is inspired by God”. The words that we read in the Bible were written by people through the inspiration of God. Once you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, He will lead you in all that you do. Through His guidance those that wrote were led by Him. Then Paul continues by sharing how the Scriptures should do the following. The initial purpose of Scripture is to teach, and give you understanding on how you are to live your life. Next the word will reproof you, showing you the things that are displeasing to the Lord. Then he shares what corrections you need to make in your life to be in sync with His will. The last thing Paul mentions is training for righteousness. Through God’s Word, you will learn how to build a relationship with the Lord, and live in a manner that is pleasing in His sight. In verse 17, Paul gives Timothy the benefits he will gain by embracing the previous verse.
Paul wants him to be proficient in the work of ministry. Paul is letting Timothy know when you live according to God’s Word, you are skilled. Then you are equipped for every good work. Every saint is called to do a good work for the Lord. If Timothy follows what Paul has shared, he will do a good work, and be victorious. Paul is not sharing this with Timothy solely for his benefit, but also for those he will be ministering too.
The Lord has supplied you with everything you need to do good works. However, He will not take it further. It’s your responsibility to be proficient, and that will only happen when you study and apply the Scriptures to your life. Then you are fully equipped to do good work. Now, are you willing to do what it takes to make it happen? If so, move forward doing good works, sharing with others on how to live victorious. Continue to walk in your blessings!
