Last week we preached about following His plan, because this is the only way we can come to the Father. Jesus came to make us aware of what we are capable of doing, when we follow His plan. It is interesting that people are always looking for a loophole to go through, to get them to where they want to be sooner. Think about this, in order to try and find a loophole, it requires you to put forth effort. Why not put forth the effort to follow His plan? You will not find any loopholes.
Jesus spent a lot of time with His disciples showing them the importance of being focused, and to persevere no matter what others had to say. When Jesus arrived at Lazarus’s tomb, He instructed them to roll away the stone. But, Martha said there is already a stench coming from the tomb, and the smell is going to get worse once the stone is removed. This did not deter Jesus, and once the stone was removed Lazarus came out alive. There are many situations written in the Gospels where Jesus had to focus and persevere. Through Him doing this, great things took place. He wanted His disciples to follow His lead.
In John 14:12-14, Jesus is sharing with His disciples what they will be capable of doing through believing in Him. Jesus says to His disciples in verse 12, “the one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I Am going to the Father.” I know they were struggling to understand what Jesus was saying, because they had seen with their own eyes what He had done. However, Jesus was planting the seeds in His disciples, and once they saw Him resurrected the seeds were being watered. Once Pentecost came the impossible was now possible, because all doubts were removed when they were filled with the Holy Spirit. They were moving forward in the way, the truth, and the life. By going the way of Jesus they were able to do the impossible, through moving in truth they accomplished great things. This was all made possible because their lives had been made brand new. In essence by them believing in Jesus they were no longer relying on their way. By embracing the truth the Lord freed them from the bondage of sin, and the life they were living was for Jesus. When you follow the Lord’s plan the evidence is in the works. The disciples did great work by spreading the Gospel to the world. The disciples influenced many through preaching and teaching, and wrote epistles to encourage the saints. These are the greater works Jesus was talking about. You have the ability to do great work for the Lord, but you must first get out of your own way. The world has already labeled you as a nobody going nowhere, but Jesus wants to have the final say about your life. This will only happen when you believe in Him. You have a decision to make, and I hope you will believe in Jesus. If you do, the evidence is in the work. Continue to walk in your blessings!
