When I was growing up no matter what activities I was involved in, my parents were always there. It meant a lot to me at school events to look out in the audience and see them there. At my little league baseball games, I could hear my father’s voice over all the noise in the stands. This was my motivation to do my best because my parents were there watching. Afterward, getting a hug from my mother and having my father tell me that was good. They would then proceed to tell me how to get better. Things seem a whole lot better when we have people there to encourage and support us. However, when you are involved in ministry, do you have the same encouragement and support?
In Hebrews 12:1-2, the writer makes it clear we are not alone. Therefore put down the weight that will be a distraction, including the sin that is attempting to cling to you. Doing this is essential to you being effective in ministry, you have to lighten the load in your life before you get started. As you are moving forward providing ministry, there will be obstacles along the way. The purpose of these obstacles are to cause you to loose focus and stop moving forward. However, you will persevere and continue on the course the Lord has before you. You are able to do this by setting your focus on Jesus Christ, the pioneer and perfecter of your faith. The writer wants you to know the trail has already been blazed by Jesus. Therefore, let Him lead you. Jesus had to endure pain and suffering on the cross. He also disregarded the shame of being crucified on the cross, because of the joy that was going to come from it. What He did has given us the opportunity to be saved from a life of sin. They buried Him in the tomb on Friday. But early on Sunday morning He got up with all power in His hands. This is the joy we receive in accepting Him as our Lord and Savior. We have a joy the world didn’t give, nor can it take it away.
I want you to remember you have help as you move forward in ministry. The Lord is with you every step of the way. You have to make the decision to keep your focus on Him, and He will guide you on the course that is laid out before you. Also, don’t forget you already have the victory! Continue to walk in your blessings.
