In John 8:31-36, Jesus was talking with the Jews that believed in Him. In verse 31, Jesus makes them aware of the need to accept His word and continue to abide by it. By doing this they will truly be identified as His disciples. In essence they will put forth the effort to live by what they have learned from the Lord. They are able to do this, because Jesus has given them the truth, and they will live by it. As they do, the truth will release them from the sin that had them bound. This is the only way to overcome the dominance sin had on their lives. Jesus came to make us free from a life of sin, by giving us the truth. When He shared this with the Jews, they did not believe they were ever slaves to anything. They did not know how sin had infiltrated their lives, because the approach sin takes is always subtle. Then Jesus tells them, “very truly, I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.” The Lord was letting them know their current condition, and this is why He came into the world. Jesus came to make us free from a life of sin, by giving us the truth. When they heard what Jesus had to say, it was left up to them to respond. Were they going to continue on their current path, or embrace the word of Jesus?
How have you responded to what the Lord has given you? Jesus has given you an opportunity to make a life change, because the path of sin has kept you bound. But, the truth He has presented to you will make you free. This is attainable for you, by accepting Jesus Christ into your life. Once this happens, you will live your life according to His word; that will lead you to life eternal. This will make you feel good about yourself and you will begin to share with others what the Lord has done for you. Why, because whom the Son makes free, is free indeed! Continue to walk in your blessings.
