Can You Believe the Unbelievable?

Home > Featured, Pastor's Blog > Can You Believe the Unbelievable?

The life of a Christian is based on our ability to believe, what others think is unbelievable. We are constantly faced with situations, where our beliefs are tested. Those are situations when we have to truly lean on the Lord, to help us when doubt attempts to creep in.

In Matthew 1:18-25, we have the story of Mary being with child from the Holy Spirit. She was engaged to Joseph, and had to tell him. When she shared this with him, he decided to dismiss her quietly, because he did not believe her. Joseph could have made it known, she was with child and it was not his. If he took this approach, Mary would have been stoned to death, for committing adultery. During that time, once you were engaged you were considered to be married. Therefore, if you were to break the engagement you would have to divorce the person. I believe Joseph loved Mary, and did not want to see any harm come to her. So, that’s why he planned to dismiss her quietly. That night, the Lord sent an angel to speak to Joseph in a dream, to confirm Mary told him the truth. When he woke up, he made the decision to believe the unbelievable, and take Mary to be his wife.

This tells me that Mary was called to carry the Messiah, and Joseph was called to be his earthly father. Before the Lord can move us forward in faith, we have to believe the unbelievable. Once this takes place, we move forward to do the impossible. This is a process that can not be cheated, or skipped over, you can only do the impossible, when you believe the unbelievable.

This is the one thing that will hold us back as Christians, when we are unable to believe the unbelievable. Think about this, when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we believed the unbelievable. This is the starting point for every child of God, not the ending point. Making this decision moves us to do the impossible as we move forward in life through faith. Continue to walk in your blessings!
