Mothers are always thinking about their families, because they want the best for them. More times than not, a mother will deny herself to make sure her children have what they need. A mother will help their children to see the potential that exists within, and let them know you can accomplish whatever you put your mind to. Mothers are always giving more than they received, and they are thankful for what they are able to do. Then there are times they have to show tough love by correcting their children when they have done wrong. This is painful for mothers, because they have taught you better, and to see you do this causes them pain. A mother will do whatever is necessary to ensure their child gets what they need. In Matthew 15:21-28, we have the story about a mother coming to Jesus on behalf of her daughter. This mother was not Jewish, but a Canaanite, and knew there was a possibility Jesus would not help her. When the woman saw Jesus in her region, she shouted “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.” As she was shouting out to Jesus, He did not respond. So His disciples thought He did not want to be bothered by this Gentile, so they wanted to remove her from their presence. However, this woman would not stop shouting, because she believed Jesus could heal her daughter. Therefore, they could not silence or stop her. She came and knelt before Jesus and said, “Lord, help me.” This was an interesting choice of words, it was her daughter that needed healing. But, when a mother’s child is hurting, she is hurting as well. After Jesus and this mother exchanged words, Jesus knew this mother had the faith to believe that He could heal her daughter. Jesus said, “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” This mother left the presence of Jesus believing her daughter had been healed, and she was. This mother went through all of this so that her daughter could be healed. She wasn’t Jewish, but Jesus was also letting His disciples know all that come to Him in faith will be blessed.
On this Mother’s Day, I’m encouraging all who still have their mothers with them to make it a point to let them know how much you appreciate what they have done for you. Why, because they will not tell you all they went through for you. For those whose mothers have gone on to glory, praise God, for blessing you with mothers that were great examples on how to live a life of faith in the Lord. Continue to walk in your blessings. Happy Mother’s Day!
