There is something lacking within our world, and that is the truth. We hear a number of people talking and nobody is telling the truth. They keep repeating the same lies. There are some who think if you tell the same lie long enough people will come to accept it as truth. When you look at what is taking place in our country, is there any truth to this statement? I’m going to use this analogy to show the difference between the truth and a lie. A person goes to a deli to buy a sandwich, and places an order. They are handed a sandwich wrapped in paper, after they pay for it. They unwrap it expecting it to be good, and take a bite, and all they have is bread with nothing in it. They go back and complain about their sandwich having nothing in it. The person behind the counter says, how do I know you didn’t take out the meat? Are you trying to get your money back by telling me a lie? Another person sees what happened and goes to the deli across the street, and buys a sandwich and gets what they ordered. A lie comes wrapped but has nothing in it, the truth comes wrapped and is filled with everything you need. In essence the lie leaves you empty, but truth will fill you with what you need.
In John 18:33-38, we have Pilate having a conversation with Jesus, and he asks Jesus, “are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus was brought to Pilate to be crucified, but Pilate was struggling with what they told him about Jesus. He didn’t think they were telling him the truth. This is why he presented this question to Jesus to determine who was telling him the truth. The people that brought Jesus to Pilate were the religious leaders, so he expected them to be men of integrity. However, after talking with them he was feeling empty and knew something was not right. This is why he questioned Jesus for himself, because he wanted to know the truth. Jesus also shared with Pilate, if my kingdom was on this earth my followers would have been fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. Pilate had the truth before him, and knew things were not adding up. We were like Pilate initially, the truth was being presented to us, and we knew things needed to change in our lives. Then Jesus made Pilate aware, “I came into the world, to testify to the truth.” Pilate is struggling to understand and raises this question, “What is truth?” He is conflicted because he can sense there is something about Jesus that moves him. He did not want to do anything to jeopardize his position. Saints, if we don’t stand for the truth, then how can we make an impact for the Lord. Truth is something that will impact your life to make you better, not bitter. However, when you hear the truth it’s not always what you want, but if you embrace it you get what you need. You have to make the decision on whether you will embrace the truth, because it’s a matter of life and death. Jesus came so that you would have life more abundantly, but this is only possible by you accepting the truth about yourself. When you recognize sin has been dominating your life, and the only way to change this is through accepting you are a sinner in need of a Savior. When you accept Jesus Christ into your heart the impact He will make on your life will be incredible. Why, because truth fills you with what you need. Continue to walk in your blessings.
