As life is lived ,there is something you should do every year, and that’s go to the doctor to get a physical. This is done to see how your body is functioning, and they draw blood to check for any abnormalities. By doing this on a yearly basis, any issues that occur can be addressed before they become a major problem. So, you have to make the decision to schedule your yearly physical. The same is true about your spiritual health, how often should the Lord examine you? This is a necessity for your spiritual growth. The Lord wants the best to come out of your life, and that is only possible by you letting Him in. The Lord has to be invited into your life, because He will not force Himself upon you. Once you do, whatever is not right-He will correct. Also, He will make your life fruitful for Him. However, there is a difference in the frequency of your spiritual examination. It needs to occur daily, because things can shift quickly around you.

In Psalm 139:23-24, the writer is asking the Lord to search him. He makes this statement in verse 23, “search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts.” The writer wants to make sure he is living his life in a manner that is pleasing to God. He will not make the mistake of thinking he does not need the Lord to examine him. In the verses prior, he talks about the actions of the wicked people around him. He is able to see the wrong they are doing, but he will not make the mistake of thinking he is above doing like them. So, this is why he wants the Lord to examine him. He first asks for his heart to be checked, to ensure he is not doing anything outside the will of God. Then, he wants God to test his thought process, to ensure he is not thinking like the wicked. He wants to make sure, he is not self absorbed and does not have compassion for others. The writer does not want to leave any stone unturned, because he recognizes his actions can be wicked if they are not examined. He could easily look down on them, and forget he is capable of doing the same thing. In doing this he would be letting his guard down, and creating an opportunity for him to do the same. This is why he said in verse 24, “see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” The writer understands there can be times things can happen, to cause us to step outside the will of God. So, if this happens in his life he wants God to correct, and lead him in the way of everlasting. In essence put him back on the right track, and keep him there.

What about you? When you see the negativity others are doing, don’t make the mistake of thinking you’re above it. The enemy wants you to have this mindset, because that means you have let your guard down. When this happens it’s easy for him to invade your space, and have you doing what you thought was not possible. So, make the decision to allow the Lord to examine you on a daily basis. By doing this, He will keep you on the right track. Continue to walk in your blessings!
