When you come into your house at night, the first thing you do is turn on the light. Why, because you don’t want to walk around in the dark. When you are moving around in the dark nothing around you is visible and the odds of you walking into something increases. This is why some people will not enter a room that is dark, because they believe it’s not safe. I agree it’s not safe walking in a dark room. However, many people are living their lives in the darkness of sin, which causes them to walk into a number of things that have injured them. Many people have tried to avoid certain things in their lives, but when you are in darkness you are incapable of seeing the danger. This was the condition of the world prior to Jesus Christ. He brought light into darkness, causing the darkness to flee whenever Jesus showed up. Wherever Jesus went, lives were changed because they were exposed to the Light of the world.
In Luke 11:33-36, Jesus uses a parable to give us clarity about the purpose of light in our lives. Jesus makes a comparison between a lamp and our lives. He states, “no one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar, but on a lamp stand so that those who enter may see the light.” The key to this verse is the last three words, see the light. The light is visible and it makes everything around it visible. Why, because once the light shines darkness is removed. Then Jesus explains: the purpose of having a healthy spiritual eye is that it allows the light to shine into our lives. However, if the spiritual eye is not healthy, then the light is not able to be fully exposed within our bodies. This will allow darkness to remain within us. Therefore, the light coming from us will not illuminate as it should. The question is, what will cause our spiritual eye not to be healthy? When our focus is not fully given to Jesus Christ. I know in life there are a number of things that are pulling on us, but there is nothing more important than Jesus. When you focus on Jesus Christ, He will help you with all the things that are pulling on you. In essence you have to make Jesus Christ the priority in your life, and He will assist you with everything else. This is how your spiritual eye remains healthy, and allows His light to fully shine inside of you. When this happens the light shining from you will illuminate the room, causing people to be drawn to you. This is how you are able to assist others to receive the light, and let it shine from them.
Please don’t limit Jesus in your life, because it will have an impact on how much light you can receive. Also, it will determine how radiant the light will be coming from you. Your light is not to be dim, but it’s to illuminate an entire room. Make Jesus Christ the priority in your life, and He will help you with everything. Continue to walk in your blessings!
