For the past three weeks we have been preaching from John 14. The Lord keeps showing me the next portion of His word that He wants me to preach from in this chapter. There is something we all would like to have as we move forward doing the Lord’s work, and that is peace. Peace is something everyone on earth would like to have. Many have attempted to find peace through drinking, others have used drugs to get some peace. Some have tried to find peace in the arms of another person. All of these approaches have something in common: they are all temporary. Let me give you a real life example, when my mother died when I was fourteen I gravitated to my grandmother and she died two years later. At this point I didn’t know what to do, because I was troubled and afraid. I was sixteen trying to understand what was going on around me, because everything I tried to hold on to left me. Church was not an option at this point in my life, because I didn’t want to have anything to do with God. Because I blamed Him for the death of my mother. I was not sure how to go from day to day because I had no peace. Saints, I want you to know we serve a loving God, because He could have given up on me but He didn’t. I’m here today, because of the love of God, He turned my life around and gave me peace.  

In John 14:25-27, Jesus wants you to know, He will make sure you have everything you need to be victorious in the work. As Jesus is talking to His disciples they are absorbing every word, because the evidence is in His works. In verse 26, Jesus explains in more detail the purpose of the Advocate is to teach and remind you of all He has said. The Lord wants you to be fully equipped for the task at hand, and that is to share the Gospel. This was even more important for the eleven disciples He was talking to, because they didn’t have a Bible. The Spirit of truth was going to keep the Lord’s words fresh in their minds by teaching and reminding them. In verse 27, Jesus is letting them know what they have, and that is Peace. The key statement in this verse is, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you.” As a child of God, Jesus gives you His peace. These disciples saw how Jesus conducted Himself in many situations, and He did not allow any situation to overwhelm Him. It did not matter how chaotic a situation appeared when Jesus showed up there was peace and order. 

During the many storms He had to go through, Jesus maintained His peace, and knew trouble would not last always. So, when Jesus said He was giving them His peace, they knew exactly what it was. Jesus’ actions were to be an example for His disciples, and to us today. You can not be effective in ministry if you are troubled and afraid. This is why you have to embrace the peace Jesus is giving. You no longer have to be troubled and afraid, because you are not relying on self. Your help comes from the Lord, and you have to be willing to embrace the peace He is giving. Yes, there will be obstacles as you move forward, but they will not get your attention. There will be some storms ahead, but you will make it through, because Jesus has supplied you with His peace. Which allows you to remain calm and continue to walk by faith and not by sight. What are you waiting for, embrace His peace. Continue to walk in your blessings!
