As Christians we have come to understand how much the Lord loves us. In the past, the Lord was not a priority in your life and you were spending a lot of time chasing after material things. Your primary focus was getting what you wanted no matter how many people were hurt by your actions. It wasn’t until sin had beat you down to the point where you felt your life didn’t matter, when you heard the Lord knocking at the door of your heart. Someone may be wondering why the Lord waited so long to knock, He didn’t. He was always knocking, but you were not listening. The beauty about what the Lord did is that He would not give up on you. He knew sin was doing whatever it could to take you out, before you could hear Him knocking and let Him in.
This tells me how much the Lord loves us. Now that we have been saved and set free, we will live our lives in a manner where the Lord will be glorified. In essence the Lord has done a good work in our lives, so we will move forward doing His will. Why, because we are in a good place.
In Deuteronomy 8:1-10, Moses is reminding the Israelites what the Lord has done and they are not to forget. If they do all that was gained will be lost, because the Lord is not primary in their lives. Moses reminded them of the commandments they have received, and how they must continue to observe them in their lives. By doing this they are being an example to their children, so they will continue to observe the commandments. This is how the Lord will remain primary for the Israelites. Also, in these verses Moses reminds the people how the Lord provided them with manna, which was a food they had not had prior nor did they have again once they entered the promised land. It was stated in verse 3, “in order to make you understand that one does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
The key to their success was their ability to live by the word of the Lord. They were instructed not to make the mistake of focusing on the stuff they received in the promised land. But, keep their focus on the Lord that brought them to this good place. There will always be distractions that are attempting to get our attention, but we have to keep our focus on the Lord. Because, He brought us to the good place we are in. This was the challenge given to them. As long as the Lord is their focus good things will happen, but if they lose focus things will begin to crumble. The Lord has put you in a good place, so that you will be victorious in doing good work. As you continue to maintain your focus on the Lord, you are also obligated to be an example to others. Letting them know they can’t forget all the Lord has done in their lives, and He is the reason they are in a good place. Continue to walk in your blessings!
