As we read the Gospel of John, it takes an approach in getting us to understand Jesus Christ that is different from the other Gospels. The purpose is the same, to get people to know Jesus Christ and accept Him as our Lord and Savior. The target audience in Matthew is the Jewish community to get them to see that Jesus is the Messiah. The Gospel of Mark is written to a general audience, to let them see they need to accept Jesus Christ into their lives. The Gospel of Luke is targeting the Gentile community to make them aware Jesus came for them as well. The Gospel of John, was written to stop the spread of Gnosticism. These were people that were stating Jesus was a spirit and did not come in flesh and blood. Their view of Him was philosophical, which would change how He was viewed.

This is why John wrote this Gospel to make everyone aware Jesus Christ was a person who walked on the earth. John was a disciple of Jesus, and was with Him as He went from town to town doing the work of God. In John 1:10-13, the writer continues his theme of expressing the purpose for Jesus Christ coming into the world. In verse 10 the writer wants it to be known, the world came into being through Him. Again the writer is placing emphasis on the Word performing the action spoken by God. Then he ends the verse by saying, “yet the world did not know Him.” It’s amazing how close some people were to Jesus, but they were still far off. Why? Because, they did not want to know or understand He came for all.

Then Jesus came to the people whom the prophecy was told, and they did not accept Him.They rejected Him, because His message to them was not what they wanted to hear. They wanted a people pleaser, but He came to do the will of God. When you have been called by God, you must allow Him to lead your life. Yes, there will be times people will not understand what you are doing, but you must continue to walk by faith trusting in God. This is exactly what Jesus Christ was doing, allowing His Heavenly Father to guide Him. Therefore, we are to follow the example Jesus has put before us.

Then the writer states, “But all who received Him, who believed in His name, He gave power to become children of God.” Even though some of the leaders rejected Him, many people received and believed in Him. The writer continued by saying through receiving and believing in Jesus Christ, he says, “who are born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.” All of this takes place, because we accepted His Son. Our Heavenly Father has embraced us and accepted us into His family, through Jesus Christ. The writer makes it clear this power comes from God alone.  I want you to understand by receiving and believing in Jesus Christ your life has made a shift. You are no longer in darkness but in the Light, because Jesus has given you life through embracing Him as Lord and Savior. You have now been born into the Holy family of God. God created this opportunity for you to make a shift, moving you to accept Jesus Christ. The power of God made it possible for you to become His Child. Continue to walk in your blessings!
