There is a reality children don’t know about their mothers, they don’t know all their mothers went through in order to protect and provide for them. There are some things they may share, but they will not tell you everything. However, they will tell you the Lord is the reason we are still here. We all need to be thankful for all the Lord has done for us, and our mothers will not let us forget the goodness of the Lord. Why, because there will come a time you will need to call on the Lord for yourself. Mothers raise their children, and they want to ensure their children know where their help comes from.

In 2 Kings 4:1-7, we have a story about a mother who was about to lose her children. Her husband had died and the creditors were coming to collect. She did not have the funds they were owed and they were preparing to take her children as payment. This mother goes to see Elisha, because her husband was a part of the company of prophets. I know she is devastated by what the creditors are planning to do if she is unable to come up with the funds. Elisha asks her what does she have in her house? This question could have been confusing to the woman, because whatever I have at home is not enough. But, she states all I have is a jar of oil. Elisha tells her to borrow as many empty vessels she can get, and take them home. Then go inside and shut the door, and fill all the empty vessels. This mother has a decision to make, do I follow these instructions or ignore them and look for another option.

The mother decided to do as instructed, and borrowed as many empty vessels as she could get. They bring all the empty vessels into the house and shut the door. Now, does she have the faith to start pouring the oil? Because the jar of oil in her hand is smaller than the vessel she is about to fill. This mother believes she has come too far to give up, so she begins to pour and the empty vessel is filled with oil. Each time she begins to pour and the vessel is filled with oil, I can see her praising the Lord. The oil did not run out until all the vessels in the house were filled. This mother is so amazed with what has taken place. Then she goes to Elisha and tells him what happened. He now instructs her to sell the oil to pay her debts, and her family will be able to live off the rest. This mother was willing to move by faith, and was able to protect and provide for her family. When you make the decision to walk by faith, it pleases the Lord, and He will make away out of no way.

What is weighing you down right now, and you are not sure what to do? I’m encouraging you to pray, asking the Lord for guidance, once you receive the answer move forward in faith. You may not be able to fully understand how it’s going to work, but you will do as the Lord instructs. This is the only way it will come to pass. Continue to walk in your blessings. Happy Mother’s Day!
