Today is Resurrection Sunday, the day our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was risen. This is the purpose for which He came, to overcome everything that was keeping us down. The world was lost and confused, because sin was creating chaos all around the world. This chaos had everyone thinking things can’t improve, causing people to live hopelessly. Our God saw our condition and had a plan to change our outlook. Why, in our current state we would be separated from our Heavenly Father through all eternity. This is the primary reason every child of God should be excited, because Jesus came to give everyone the opportunity to be united with God. It was never the will of God for us to be separated from Him. Adam and Eve were created by God, and were placed in the garden of Eden with everything they needed. However, when they ate the forbidden fruit humanity was separated from God. Therefore, Jesus is the way for us to come back home to God.
In John 20:1-18, John is sharing with us what took place on Resurrection Sunday. Mary Magdalene was heading to the tomb where Jesus was buried early on Sunday morning, and when she arrived the stone was rolled away. Immediately she thought someone removed Jesus from the tomb. So, she leaves and shares this with the disciples. Peter and John go to investigate, and when they enter the tomb they see the cloths folded neatly and Jesus is not there. This triggered something within them to believe He may have risen, but they were fighting within themselves. They did not want to get excited only to be let down. The Lord will always leave evidence of what He is doing, you have to embrace it with faith.
Mary Magdalene was devastated when she returned to the tomb, and was inconsolable. She believed someone took Him from the tomb, and all she wanted to do was get to Him. When Jesus met Mary at the tomb, she was stuck in her grief. When Jesus engaged in conversation with her, she did not recognize Him or His voice initially. When grief grabs you it’s hard to get out, but not impossible. Jesus has the ability to release you. The beauty of this encounter Jesus had with Mary Magdalene, was His ability to remain patient with her. Knowing He had to meet her where she was in order to get her to where He wanted her to be. In this encounter we are seeing the love of Jesus, and His ability to release us from being stuck in our grief.
How has grief caused you to become stuck? The Lord knows grief has a hold on you, and it doesn’t want to let you go. I want you to know, the Lord is getting started in your life. He is meeting you in your grief, and He is about to do something new in you. To pull you out of the grief, and get you started going in a new direction. The thought of you getting through this did not enter your mind, but through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. He is going to get you going in a direction that will allow you to do the unthinkable. Mary Magdalene never thought she would become an evangelist for Jesus Christ, but she did. The Lord is getting started with something new in you! Continue to walk in your blessings.
