20160910_091426I would like to give a SHOUT OUT and a BIG THANK YOU to the amazing Broad Rock Baptist Christian Women’s Ministry at Broad Rock Baptist Church for the large donations of household items, food, school supplies, handbags and bus tickets that they have consistently blessed our survivors with for over a year. They help keep our pantries stocked .It seems that they know when we are getting low on items because I will get an email from Patricia McCormick, President that they are planning another drive for Safe Harbor throughout the year.

In addition to the drive we are always invited to talk about Safe Harbor’s Mission. I gladly accept the invitation. We have interactive and heart felt discussions on domestic and sexual violence. The ladies are willing to learn and understand these issues to better serve and educate their communities and families. I applaud these women for their willingness to make a difference.

We have had a survivor of domestic violence as the special guest. She openly shared her story of abuse and how Safe Harbor helped her to safety and to reach her goals. Recently our Safe Harbor intern who attends Virginia State University, Talia Steele did a presentation to the ministry focusing on “The Realities of Sexual Assault on College Campuses”. Talia did a great job presenting and answering questions that many parents and grandparents had regarding prevention and the current situation on college campuses. I ended the presentation by sharing how we can help survivors of sexual assault. Also how they can collectively or individually help survivors through Safe Harbor.
