PASTOR COOK'S PHOTO

We celebrate our Pastor Kevin Cook, who has pastored Broad Rock Baptist Church for 12 years.

Pastor Cook is a native of Orange, New Jersey and is a graduate of the Orange School System.  He earned an associate degree in Business Applications and graduated with honors from Essex County College.

Pastor Cook is married to Paulette Smith Cook and they are blessed with three children, Mariah, Naomi and Marcus.

Pastor Cook received his call to the ministry in 1989 and accepted Christ at St. Paul Baptist Church in Montclair, New Jersey in 1991, when he preached his initial sermon.  Pastor Cook then enrolled at Montclair State University and majored in Religious Studies.  While at St. Paul Baptist Church, he served as Minister of Outreach for three years and later joined Union Baptist Church in Passaic, New Jersey, until his relocation to Richmond, VA in 1995.

He joined Trinity Baptist Church and served under the leadership of Dr. A. Lincoln James, until he was called to pastor Foster Creek Baptist Church in Louisa, VA.  He served at Foster Creek for six years and accepted the call to pastor Broad Rock Baptist Church in April, 2003.  He continued his education at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, on the campus of Virginia Union University and graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 2006.

Under Pastor Cook’s leadership, Broad Rock established and developed:  Couples; Singles; Young Adults; Health; Praise Dance; Culinary; and Transportation Ministries.  Our Outreach Ministries was expanded to include the weekly broadcast on 1540 AM Radio on Sunday mornings; various shelter programs; mentoring and association with Boushall Middle School; benevolence through Social Services and the Feed More Program; establishment of the BRBC website and more recently, the ‘Pastor’s Blog’.  Pastor Cook had a vision to provide an opportunity for all the saints at Broad Rock to come together for a “Unified Worship Service” once a month.  When he presented his vision to the saints, they voted to have one worship service on fourth Sundays at 9:30 a.m.  This worship experience allows all of us to know one another better and to become more united.  We also focus more on of the needs and concerns of the Broad Rock community.

Our Pastor always emphasizes spiritual growth.  He teaches the Young Adult Sunday School Class, creates and develops our Vacation Bible School curriculum, teaches various workshops to the saints and leaders of Broad Rock, and teaches Mid-Day Bible Study.  Pastor Cook became our ‘full-time’ Pastor in July, 2014.

As we celebrate Pastor Cook’s 12th Anniversary here at Broad Rock, we reflect on our growth, under his guidance and leadership.  The church’s physical growth includes: parking lot expansions; installation of a playground; the purchase and payment in full of a 30-passenger bus, as well as, the purchase of a carport to house our bus and van.  This year, the Lord enabled us to make improvements to our Audio Visual Ministry.  Our most recent blessing, spearheaded by our Pastor, is the acquisition of the property next door, 5100 Walmsley Boulevard.  The house has been demolished and the land was prepped by contractors, in preparation for our church expansion.  We thank God for the visions of our Pastor, as he leads and encourages us to believe and stay focused, as the Lord leads us onward and upward.

Pastor Cook does not have a favorite scripture, but he is always blessed with words of inspiration from God when situations arise.  He understands that it is through God’s Grace and Mercy that he is able to persevere. Our Pastor instills in us many lessons and messages that will always be a part of us:  “We Teach One, In Order to Reach One”; “Equipping the Saints for Such a Time As This—Through Transformation By Information”; and Broad Rock Baptist Church’s Mission Statement.

Pastor Cook enjoys watching sports to include football, basketball, and baseball.  He also enjoys playing an occasional round of golf, when time permits.

We look forward to the next phase of our journey with our Pastor, following the direction that God shared with him for us, the Broad Rock Family, as we continue to “MAKE IT HAPPEN”.  TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!
